The Origin

Around four years ago, Grant, Drew, Allan, and Justin began their freshmen year of college, having been friends since high school, they naturally all moved in to an apartment-style suite together. It is this period of their lives on which Hunky Dory is loosely based.

The idea for Hunky Dory came to Drew and Grant sometime in 2005. They tossed around various ideas for a while before deciding that they and their former roommates were the perfect subject for a comedic webcomic.

The Name

"What should the strip be called?" was a question that hung in the air for some time. Several ideas were tossed around (including "Absolute Minutia," which almost won out) before a mutual admiration for David Bowie's 1971 album Hunky Dory decided the strip's name.
